Cowtown 2018 Training Week 4 & Pumpkin Spice 10K
For my Monday run, I decided to do intervals (run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute, repeat). I programmed the workout into my Garmin, but, unfortunately didn’t repeat the intervals enough times. Tuesday, I picked up my packet for Pumpkin Spice. I was a little disappointed that the super-comfy long-sleeved t-shirt of the past two years has been replaced with a long-sleeved dri-fit shirt. At least it’s mostly white, so it will be a good shirt to wear for cold runs in the dark. Wednesday, I got home later than expected, so I shortened my run. I tried intervals again.
Friday morning, I woke up with another cold. I’m hoping I’m getting all of my illnesses out of the way now, and will be healthy in February for once. That night, I had volunteered to work one of the concession stands for a football playoff game. I got really tired, and felt awful by the time I got home. I was contemplating skipping a race for the first time ever, but I felt a little better when I woke up Saturday morning. I decided I felt well-enough that I could walk the 10K if I had to. I started feeling tired after about 2 miles. Around 3 miles, a cold front blew in. The wind was blowing about 30mph with higher gusts, and the rest of the race course had us running into it. I spent quite a bit of time holding my cap on my head. At mile 6, a gust lifted it off of my head. Luckily, I was able to catch it, because it’s my favorite cap. I ended up finishing about 20 minutes slower than my 10K PR, but I’m okay with that.
I walked straight from the finish line to my car, drove home, showered, and fell asleep. I spent a lot of the afternoon sleeping. I felt better Sunday, but I still don’t have much of a voice.
